Chapter 16: Melody takes the medi-talker to school, she shows it to Catherine, and insults her awful fashion choices. Melody also shows her new medi-talker to her inclusion class. She says hi and then tells some jokes. Melody even gets to talk to Rose for the first time and they both (verbally) declare themselves friends, no hesitation.
Chapter 17: With the medi-talker, Elvira, Melody named it, she was able to take tests, even easier than before and actually get them marked into a grade book. In class they took a practice test for the school quiz team. Melody got every answer right and won a candy bar as a reward. The teacher then told the class for the audition test for the team there would actually be hard questions. Conner, one of her inclusion classmates, then said the test he had just taken was hard enough, but the teacher informed hi that is Melody could get a 100% then it was far beyond easy. The rest of that day Melody was in a terrible mood.
Chapter 18: After Mr.Dimming's class insult Melody and Mrs.V studied hard, Catherine told Mrs.V everything so she put Melody To work studying and told her parents later.. She also kept Melody after dinner to help insure she would ace the test, while Penny was sent home. At school Melody stayed in room H5 listening to information tapes all day, anyway no one seemed to notice she was gone.
Chapter 19: The days go by quickly, Melody had typed some responses into the medi-talker for when people ask what's wrong with her. And later on Mrs.V's porch she is asked if she would like to be a bird and be free, but all Melody says as a response is that if she were a bird she would be too scared to fly because it would feel so good she would fly miles and miles away and never come back. She said she wished she were free like Penny though, "freedom" she said. When her father got home that day Penny raced to go see him from the porch they were all gathered at but was stopped by reliable old Butterscotch so her mother could catch up and pick her up.
Chapter 20: Melody waits all day to go to Mr. D's room for the test, she even listens to the announcements about it in the morning. When Catherine rolls her in Mr.D warns her bout how had the test will be, but both Melody and Catherine know that will be no problem. By the time the test was over melody had answered all 100 questions with her greatest effort, and afterward her mother picks her up, asks her how she did and melody answered, "Okay, I guess."
